When it makes sense

Frontier is a low-fare carrier, and awards are priced against cash fares that are often already low, so your own redemptions can land under the typical value. The main use for miles is to cover a gap on a ticket, or to pay for bags and seats. 10,000 miles at the top tier cost about $108, against about $130 of typical value. Price the award against the cash fare before you buy, and buy only miles you are sure to use.

Our verdict

A fair price at the top tier. At about 1.08¢ against a 1.3¢ value, buying 10,000 or more miles costs less than they typically return, so it is a reasonable top-up if you fly Frontier and have a booking in mind. It is not a steal: it sits just short of the 80% line our point sales page uses for “cheaper than typical value”, and smaller purchases with a lower bonus cost more. Do not buy speculatively.
