Is Citi Strata Elite Worth It in 2026?

Citi Strata Elite is Citi’s premium travel card: a $595 annual fee, 1.5× ThankYou points on everyday purchases, 3× at restaurants (6× on Friday and Saturday nights through Citi Nights), and 12× or 6× on travel booked through Citi Travel. Most of its headline value sits in credits—a hotel benefit, a Splurge Credit, and a Blacklane credit—that only count if they match how you already travel and shop.

How we estimate

We estimate Strata Elite value from restaurant spend at 3× (6× on Friday and Saturday nights), everyday spend at 1.5×, and any Citi Travel bookings you enter at 12× or 6×. Credits are added only if you toggle them on. Year 1 may include a welcome bonus when modeled; ongoing (year 2+) drops it and keeps the $595 fee. ThankYou points are valued at 1.5¢—transfers can do better, cash usually does worse. Confirm terms with Citi. Educational estimate only.

When it’s usually worth it

  • You’d naturally book a two-night hotel stay through Citi Travel each year.

  • You already spend with American Airlines or another Splurge Credit brand.

  • Weekend dinners out are a big line in your budget.

  • You use Priority Pass lounges or fly American and would use Admirals Club passes.

  • You transfer ThankYou points to airline partners.

When it isn’t

  • You won’t book through Citi Travel—the hotel benefit and portal earn mostly disappear.

  • Most of your spend is everyday purchases—a flat 2× card may earn more with no fee.

  • You want broad travel credits rather than brand-specific ones—see Strata Elite vs Sapphire Reserve.

  • You’d be happy with Citi’s 3× categories at a $95 fee—see Is Citi Strata Premier worth it?.

  • You’re only after the welcome bonus.

Tips

  • Citi Nights runs on Eastern time. The 6× window is Friday and Saturday, 6 PM to 6 AM ET—a late dinner on the West Coast may land outside it.

  • Pick Splurge brands on purpose. You choose up to two brands. American Airlines is the easiest for most travelers to use at full value.

  • Pool with no-fee Citi cards. Double Cash points become transferable when combined with a Strata Elite account.

  • Check transfer bonuses. See active transfer bonuses before moving points.

  • Year 2+ is the keep test. Renew only if ongoing value clears the fee without the bonus.

FAQ

It can be if you’ll use the hotel benefit and Splurge Credit and spend a lot at restaurants. If you won’t book through Citi Travel, the $595 fee is hard to clear on earn alone.
How much do I need to spend to break even on Strata Elite?
With no credits, about $13,200 a year at 3× restaurants covers $595 at 1.5¢ per point. Each credit you’d really use lowers that sharply. The tool shows the break-even for your own mix.
Is Strata Elite better than Chase Sapphire Reserve?
Strata Elite has a lower fee and a higher everyday earn rate; Reserve has broader credits and Chase’s transfer partners. See Strata Elite vs Sapphire Reserve.
Do Strata Elite credits count toward break-even?
Only the ones you’d use without the card. The hotel benefit needs a two-night Citi Travel booking and the Splurge Credit covers a short brand list, so leave them off unless they fit.
Is MaxPoints free?
Yes. The break-even tool and full calculator are free with no signup.
