Amex Business Platinum vs Personal Platinum

Both Platinum cards charge $895 a year and share the same hotel, airline fee and CLEAR+ credits and the same Global Lounge Collection. They earn differently. The personal card pays 5× on flights booked directly with airlines; the Business Platinum pays 5× only on flights and prepaid hotels booked through Amex Travel, plus 2× on key business purchases and any purchase of $5,000 or more. Where the cards really split is the credits: the personal card has Uber, Resy, entertainment and shopping credits, and the business card has Dell, Adobe, Indeed, ChatGPT, wireless and Hilton credits. Choose by the credits you would actually use.

How we estimate
  • Points are valued at The Points Guy’s October 2026 figures: Amex Membership Rewards 2¢, Chase Ultimate Rewards (Sapphire and Ink Preferred) 2.05¢, Citi ThankYou (Strata Premier and Elite) 1.9¢, Capital One 1.85¢, Bilt 2.2¢, SkyMiles 1.2¢ and Hilton points 0.4¢. Cash back is valued at 1¢, and so are Chase Freedom, no-fee Citi Strata and Double Cash points on their own; pooled with a premium card in the same program they are worth that program’s value.
  • Net is a year of rewards minus the annual fee. Credits count only when you turn them on, and only the ones listed under each card.
  • Welcome bonuses are left out so the numbers reflect an ordinary year.
  • Business Platinum: 5× flights and prepaid hotels booked through Amex Travel, 2× on key business categories and single purchases of $5,000 or more (first $2,000,000 a year), 1× else. Personal Platinum: 5× flights booked directly with airlines or through Amex Travel (first $500,000 a year), 5× prepaid hotels through Amex Travel, 1× else.
  • Credits are off until you turn them on. The $600 hotel, $219 CLEAR+ and Priority Pass credits are on both cards, so they cancel out if you count both. The business-only Hilton, Dell, Adobe, Indeed, ChatGPT and wireless credits and the personal-only Uber, Resy, entertainment, lululemon, Equinox, Oura and Walmart+ credits are listed separately. Global Entry or TSA PreCheck is not counted.
  • Business Platinum’s 35% airline bonus and its credits after $250,000 of spend are not counted.
  • Earn rates checked with issuers in October 2026. Offers change, so confirm terms with the issuer before you apply. Educational estimate, not financial advice.
  • Point values from The Points Guy’s October 2026 valuations.
